ERIC HAMILTON - CEO, AVIVA EDUCATION

She is thorough, organized, systematic, and has a great sense of humor. Heather goes above and beyond her scope of work to make sure that the school’s vision, mission, and strategic plan are fully realized. I highly encourage you to hire this outstanding educational leader. Eric Hamilton was Heather's direct supervisor from March 2013 until July 2015 at ISHCMC - American Academy in Vietnam. She is able to analyze challenges to identify solutions, find alternatives, or move on to something more productive that is worthy of her energies. MARK LEWIS - Head of School, BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour
If I were the Head of a School where Heather was seeking employment, I would hire her on the spot even if there were no position to fill. Her contributions extend far beyond any job descriptions and any school is immediately improved by having her on staff. I have been an educator for over thirty years and have been fortunate to work with many fine educators. To borrow a sports perspective; Heather would make my all time first all-star team. John Miller - CEO, agile classrooms
|
Agile on its own is a cutting edge management practice, but, what impressed me the most was Heather’s ability to energize people around change. At the beginning of the 2015/2016 school years, she organized professional development for 21st Century learning, by recruiting experts from around the world. Unlike other PD sessions, where teachers groan and want to get back to the real work, she inspired them, tapped into their motivations, and made clear the purpose of how these sessions are relevant to them in growing 21st Century learners. John Miller was hosted by Heather and ISHCMC - American Academy in July 2015 to conduct a Certified Agile Classrooms Teacher workshop with the entire faculty. In July 2017, he was invited to return to the school for a follow-up training.

Peers & Teammates
Robert Donisch - Applied Learning Specialist
Heather jumps into the action and pulls more than her weight to achieve goals like those mentioned above. With the students always at the heart of her actions, Heather has gone to curriculum meetings, presented at multiple board meetings, conducted professional development workshops, and even worked alongside Korean landscaping crews. There is no job that she is unwilling to try if it aligns with a vision she cares about. Heather hired Rob to join the Applied Learning Team for August 2020. His role was a new, strategic role and they work together closely on student events, curriculum integration, risk management, and other areas of continuous improvement. Rob is part of the daily agile stand up meetings and applied learning team quarterly retrospectives using OKRs (Objectives & Key Results).

John Miller - Experiential Education Coordinator & English Faculty
I witnessed a few of her unique leadership characteristics— resilience in the face of change and adaptability. Although Heather is an assiduous planner, she is quick to pivot when her plans are derailed or modified. She showed a positive attitude and a willingness to adjust when we were asked to move from planning excursions with students to planning the school’s reopening plan and overall Covid response. Heather and John met in August 2019 when she took over the Applied Learning Coordinator role at Korea International School. Although they only worked together for one year, John was instrumental to the handover process of the school's tripping program, and they worked together on numerous initiatives including a risk management overhaul for off-campus learning.

Nate Samuelson - Service & Sustainability Coordinator & English Faculty
|
It is impossible to be in a room with Heather for longer than 5 minutes without feeling inspired. She is a model of adaptability, values the positive over the negative, and, when necessary, can embrace the ready, fire, aim attitude. Her incessant focus on making herself, those around her, and everything she is involved with better is infectious. Nate Samuelson has been Heather's direct report since August 2019. Together we have re-envisioned what applied learning looks like at Korea International School prior to and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Heather and Nate spent a week testing out a jungle survival course in the Philippines and have collaborated on many projects from service learning site visits to school-wide sustainability efforts.
